About Mastery Charter Schools

Mastery Charter Schools is a nonprofit network of 24 public schools employing 1,800 staff and serving 14,500 students in Philadelphia and Camden. Mastery is a unique charter network in that nearly all of their schools are neighborhood schools that were turnarounds of previously struggling district schools. Consequently, their schools serve the highest poverty communities in their cities and a higher percentage of students with disabilities than their host districts. Mastery’s turnaround work has been recognized by the US Department of Education and President Obama for dramatically increasing academic achievement and decreasing violence.
